Every month, Sky’s the Limit brings together entrepreneurs who are brave enough to share not just a business idea, but a vision for what their community could be. Through our Friends & Family Pitch Competition, founders step forward to be seen, supported, and believed in. This November, we are proud to celebrate Nesha Brown, the founder of PurposeMint.
Building Financial Pathways That Don’t Exploit
PurposeMint is a fintech platform designed to help underserved communities build financial safety nets, establish collateral, and avoid predatory lending. The platform supports access to credit and nontraditional banking while honoring people’s values and lived realities. For Nesha, this work is personal, rooted in overcoming financial trauma and creating pathways she once wished existed for herself and others.
More Than Funding: Momentum and Belief
As the November Friends & Family grant winner, Nesha received a $2,500 grant to support the next phase of PurposeMint. The funding is helping her begin building and prototyping the platform in preparation for early users and upcoming beta testing. Just as important, the grant represented belief and trust, confirmation that her work mattered.
Nesha often describes entrepreneurship as messy and experimental, full of trial, error, and learning as you go. What made the journey feel possible was knowing she didn’t have to do it alone. Through mentorship, feedback, and a welcoming community, she found space to grow not just her business, but herself as a founder.
This work matters because when entrepreneurs are met with belief, clarity, and real support, progress follows.
The Friends and Family Fund Grant: How It Works
The Friends and Family Fund helps underrepresented entrepreneurs who might not have access to traditional sources of startup capital. Each month, Sky’s the Limit awards up to $2,500 to a promising founder through a community-powered process that includes:
-
Creating a Funding Pitch
-
Collecting Boosts from other members
-
Pitching Live as a top finalist
To date, Sky’s the Limit has awarded over $500,000 in grants to young, underrepresented entrepreneurs, helping bring dreams to life, one pitch at a time.
