From Being Stranded On The Road To Transforming Vehicle Repair
We are proud to share June 2026's Friends and Family Fund Grant Winner: Joseph Chima, founder of Guerrero Mobile Mechanics, a technology platform connecting drivers and commercial fleets with trusted mobile mechanics who deliver repairs directly at their location.
Every month, Sky’s the Limit invests $2,500 in early stage entrepreneurs through the Friends and Family Fund. These grants support founders who turn lived experience into solutions that strengthen families, communities, and future generations.
Roadside scene at dusk with a stranded vehicle
Sometimes the best businesses begin with the worst days.
Like many entrepreneurs, Joseph's business started with a problem he experienced firsthand.
After his vehicle broke down, Joseph found himself stranded and searching desperately for help. He searched online for a mechanic who could come to his location, but every option he found was closed. Eventually, he had to call roadside assistance, but the experience revealed a much larger problem.
Why was it so difficult to find reliable vehicle repair when and where people actually needed it?
That question sparked an idea that would eventually become Guerrero Mobile Mechanics.
What began as a frustrating roadside experience grew into a mission to make vehicle repair as convenient as ordering a ride
"I was stranded and couldn't find anyone who could help."
The Need For A Better Solution
Vehicle breakdowns do not happen on a schedule.
They happen during work hours, after hours, on weekends, and in the moments when people can least afford the inconvenience.
For individual drivers, a breakdown can mean lost time and unexpected expenses. For commercial fleets, every hour a vehicle is off the road represents lost revenue and disrupted operations.
At the same time, the automotive industry is facing a growing technician shortage driven by retirements, increasing vehicle complexity, and rising demand for repairs. Skilled mechanics often struggle to find flexible opportunities and fair compensation.
Joseph saw an opportunity to solve both problems.
Introducing Guerrero Mobile Mechanics
Guerrero Mobile Mechanics is a mobile repair platform that connects drivers and fleet operators with qualified mechanics who perform repairs directly at the customer's location.
Instead of towing a vehicle to a shop and waiting days for service, customers can book through the platform and have a mechanic dispatched to their home, office, or roadside location. Once on-site, the mechanic diagnoses the issue, provides an estimate, and completes the repair whenever possible.
The platform currently operates across Texas, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts, serving both individual drivers and commercial customers.
The vision is simple:
Make vehicle repair as convenient and accessible as ordering a ride.
Building More Than A Business
What makes Joseph's story especially compelling is that Guerrero Mobile Mechanics is helping both sides of the marketplace.
Customers gain access to convenient, reliable repairs.
Mechanics gain access to flexible work opportunities and stronger earning potential.
Joseph has built a model that prioritizes treating technicians fairly while providing transparent pricing and quality service to customers. As the platform grows, it creates new opportunities for skilled professionals while helping drivers get back on the road faster.
The company has already generated close to $400,000 in revenue during its first year and continues to expand into new markets.
Why The Friends & Family Fund Matters
The June Friends and Family Fund Grant will help Guerrero Mobile Mechanics accelerate growth in three critical areas:
- Market expansion and customer acquisition
- Recruiting and onboarding additional technicians
- Completing development of the company's fleet management platform
The fleet platform represents an important next step, enabling commercial clients to better manage vehicle maintenance and reduce costly downtime.
This funding helps Joseph continue building the infrastructure needed to serve more drivers, more businesses, and more communities.
